What’s the job?

Reporting to the EHS Manager the Graduate EHS Officer will play an integral role in developing, maintaining and continually improving the EHS systems at Mergon International to achieve its goals of Zero Harm, Sustainability and EHS Compliance. 

Key Responsibilities:      

  • To co-ordinate, support and advise on EHS guidance for management & employees.
  • To establish, manage and monitor that EHS is adhered to, to ensure continual improvement in our Environment, Health and Safety standards.
  • To be a key influencer to the Site Leadership Team and challenge, co-ordinate, support and guide best practice and forward thinking in all areas of Environment, Health and Safety
  • Build strong collaborative relationships with the site team
  • To be a point of contact on site in relation to statutory bodies such as the HSA, EPA and third-party stakeholders.
  • Develop and implement a strategy of continuous improvement in EHS performance based on robust annual improvement plans
  • Analyse and interpret data to identify trends and patterns in EHS performance risks
  • Support managers and employees in completion of Risk Assessments and Safety Cards.
  • In conjunction with HR, promotion of Health and Wellbeing programs across the business ensuring impact assessments are undertaken to identify, assess and reduce the organisation's risks and financial costs
  • Forms an integral part of New Employee induction.
  • Co-ordinates and records all EHS training on site.
  • Conduct internal audits on site and report findings and corrective actions to management
  • Assist in accident investigations when required.
  • Co-ordinates PPE on site
  • Maintain a document library for all standards relevant to the company.
  • Manage contractor control documentation & procedures. Report on adherence to company contractor control standards.

Who we’re looking for?

  • Third level qualification or equivalent in Health and Safety or related fields
  • Experience in EHS team in a fast moving manufacturing environment would be an advantage.
  • Excellent computer literacy.
  • Ability to utilise and navigate various software packages.
  • Excellent communication skills essential for professional discussion in meetings and for frequent liaison with all contract parties.
  • Excellent problem solving ability.
  • Ability to make on the spot decisions.
  • Must possess a dynamic approach to achieving continuous improvement.
  • Strong attention to detail with structured approach to planning & organising.
  • Ability to work on own initiative and prioritise work as required.
