Manufacturing Engineering Apprenticeship
The Role:
TEG is offering an opportunity into the high-growth Aviation, Bio-pharmaceutical and Pharmaceutical industries through the New Industry-led Manufacturing Engineering Apprenticeship Programmes.
TEG are a specialist engineering services company providing tailor made solutions to the aviation, biopharmaceutical and pharmaceutical industries around the globe. The industries we operate in, whilst very different, all require the same engineering capabilities to service their needs. These capabilities are Design, Metrology, CAM, CNC Machining (milling, EDM & turning), Fabrication, Bending, Forming, Surface Treatments and Assembly.Overseeing these capabilities is a rigorous Quality Management System (QMS) which is regularly audited by outside bodies such as the Irish Aviation Authority, European Aviation Safety Agency and Lloyds Register.
The Programme:
The higher education apprenticeship is a 6-year programme, where you “earn while you learn”. You’ll combine learning at IT Sligo with a real job working on active projects at TEG.
Your first year you’ll be a TEG employee and earn a full salary where you will learn the engineering basics you’ll need for your future role. You’ll primarily work on all stages of product creation and modification. This means supporting activities ranging from early concept, design and development stages.
During the second and third years you will move between your studies, largely online at IT Sligo, with minimal attendance, and a team of skilled colleagues in TEG. As well as receiving first-class training and support, you’ll work alongside and learn from some of the most respected and highly qualified professionals in their field.
By the end, you’ll have a string of impressive qualifications and the solid foundation you need to build your future here.
We’ll pay your tuition and course fees and give you a generous holiday allowance with company pension as part of your package. You can also expect to be on a competitive salary following completion of the programme.
The Person:
You will be innovating, ambitious, curious, have a hunger to learn. You will love nothing more than tackling complex problems. Thinking about how things could work better. You will always act with integrity and model your behaviour on the TEG values. You will represent TEG in a transparent and honest manner setting a strong example for others to follow. You will learn to design and articulate complex concepts.
What else do you need to know?
Entry Requirements: Pass (Grade O6 or better) in five leaving certificate subjects, 2 of which must be maths and a language (English or Irish) 250 CAO points. In the case of a mature student (over 23 years) an industry interview is required.

The current revolution in automation and digitalisation means that today’s school children will be employed in jobs and industries that are yet to be developed. To make sure we are ready for these opportunities and challenges, the Government is developing our Future Jobs strategy, which will help us to enhance productivity; drive innovation; create the skills and talent for the future; and help us move to a low carbon economy.”
John Hunt, Managing Director and co-owner, TEG said: “This R&D Facility is another stepping stone in the development of the capabilities within TEG. We always prided ourselves on having the best capabilities in our industry. Customers treat TEG as an extension of their engineering department for the duration of a project. We want to bring the best thinking, techniques and products into the company for the benefit of our customers. We can only do that by having the widest range of engineering capabilities available.”
Tommy Kelly, Founder, Co-owner and Business Development Director, TEG added: “This R&D Facility is a significant milestone for TEG, creating a structure for the development of new products. Its focus on innovation and the attainment of internationally-recognised industry accreditations, together with its dedication to nurturing in-house manufacturing skills, positions it well for continued success. Enterprise Ireland looks forward to continued engagement with TEG to support its global ambition.”
