What’s the job?

As a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer, you will be responsible for leading the design of complex automation equipment from initial concept to final release. You will work directly with the Engineering Manager or a designated Engineering Leader to create innovative solutions for both Mergon internal factory needs and our diverse multinational clients. Your role involves ensuring timely project completion, staying within budget, and managing complex project scopes.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead all aspects of machine design from initial concept to final release, ensuring robust and reliable designs.
  • Utilize 3D & 2D CAD software (preferably SolidWorks) to produce solid models, detailed drawings, and BOMs in line with customer specifications.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory safety and CE requirements and maintain accurate project documentation.
  • Liaise with customers on requirement specifications, project deliverables, and manage communications with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Mentor and provide technical direction to less experienced team members, supporting continuous improvement within the engineering group.
  • Support technical sales with machine concept generation and costing, producing technical documentation including data sheets, detailed drawings, operating manuals, and test procedures.
  • Lead continuous improvement activities, seeking efficient, cost-effective methods to meet quality and schedule requirements.

To be successful in this role:

  • Applicants should have at least 5 years design experience
  • Qualification to level 7 or 8 in Mechanical Engineering, Tool Design or other relevant discipline
  • Strong understanding of mechanical engineering theory using first principles to inform designs and design decisions
  • Proficient with 3-D CAD and 2D drawing preparation.
  • Excellent communication skills in English
  • Hands-on multi-tasker with problem-solving skills and great attention to detail
  • Ability to work in cross-functional teams that span global operations
  • Strong work ethic with a team-oriented mindset
  • The ability to travel internationally up to 15% annually within Europe as well as internationally.
