Printer– Job Specification (Roles and Duties)
Main Duties & Responsibilities:
Please note the below list of duties and responsibilities is only an indication of the main duties and can be modified at any time. Printers must have experience of working and running Off-set printing press or web fed reel press. Full introductory training will be provided.
Duties include:
- Mentoring and training Apprentices and trainee printers
- Preparation of machine for printing i.e. organisation of plates, inks, board etc.
- Management and review of the job list to ensure all information is correct and jobs are ready for printing.
- Achieve the colour and register.
- Print the job to the required quality standards.
- Strive to reduce quality issues and ensure printing standards are as high as possible at all times.
- Ensure all documentation is completed and information is correctly added in SME-UP.
- Ensure production is carried out in an efficient manner in line with management targets.
- Ensure waste is kept to a minimum during production.
- Ensure full line clearance is completed between finishing and starting the next production batch.
- Carry out maintenance on the machine as per the maintenance schedule. Record data for this activity.
- Report faults or any issues which may impact production immediately to the Print Department Manager or Production Manager.
- Manage the stock levels of inks and varnishes and relay information to the Print Department Manager or Purchasing Manager.
- Ensure printing machine, production areas are kept clean at all times.
- Adhere to and follow all company policies.
- Ensure to practise and follow safe practices at work policy at all times.
- Work with and support printers helpers with clear instruction regarding cleaning of machine as well as instruction for use of inks.
- Work with and support printer helpers with cleaning tasks when possible.
- Wear the correct PPE and company uniform at all times.
- Use correct PPE when handling and using chemicals during the printing process.
- Any other instructions, roles or duties as instructed by Management.
