Technological University of the Shannon Midlands Midwest

Technological University of the Shannon (TUS) is Ireland’s third technological university and home to 15,000 students and a staff complement of approximately 2,000, full-time and part-time, across seven campuses in Athlone, Limerick, Thurles, Clonmel, and Ennis.

Established on October 1, 2021, TUS has a strong regional focus and is a key driver of development and investment across the Midlands and Midwest. The new networked university, linked by the river Shannon, borders on almost half of Ireland's 26 counties and will provide unprecedented levels of access to higher education.

We are committed to developing a contemporary and vibrant technological university - a higher education TU that reflects the educational and economic needs of our region and the communities we serve. The new technological university will connect knowledge creation with industry partnerships to grow and support collaboration. The technological university will be the home of academic leaders, knowledge creators and cutting-edge researchers who will positively affect people's lives now and in the future.

TUS has a vibrant, innovative and contemporary research community that engages in next generation thinking to tackle issues at a regional, national and global level.  TUS’s research institutes, centres, and groups, including three Enterprise Ireland funded Technology Gateways, drive market-informed research in collaboration with regional, national and international industry and research-performing organisations (RPOs), and along with TUS’s four campus incubators including two Enterprise Ireland New Frontiers programmes, play a central role in the regional enterprise support system.

The "Regional Skills Horizon and Pathways to Employment" (ReSHAPE) project, led by Munster Technological University (MTU) with partners Technological University of the Shannon (TUS) and the University of Limerick (UL), is an initiative to deliver education, training and skills development opportunities for the economic development and environmental sustainability of the Midlands region. At its core ReSHAPE is the development of an intelligent platform that catalogues the education, training, and entrepreneurial supports available in the region. In addition to being a repository of education and skills information, this platform will serve as a dynamic tool that can map an individual's current skills to up skilling opportunities and onwards mapped to their target roles. This career pathway planning tool will be invaluable not only to individuals and enterprises but also to agencies such as Enterprise Ireland and the IDA in attracting FD&I into the midland region.

The ReSHAPE Project is co-funded by the Government of Ireland and the European Union through the EU Just Transition Fund Programme 2021-2027.
