The Department of Computer Science was established in 1987 and currently teaches on a number of programmes at undergraduate and postgraduate level including:

The department also contributes to programmes run by other departments. The Department of Computer Science has a current complement of over 35 full-time staff and is active in a number of key research areas with established groups in:
Computer Vision and Robotics, Principles of Programming, Geocomputation, Music Technology, Digital Holography, Computer Science Education, Information Theory and Computational Cognitive Modelling.
The department's staff also contributes to research centres in the university.
