Department of Computer Science

The Department of Computer Science was established in 1987 and currently teaches on a number of programmes at undergraduate and postgraduate level including:

  • BSc Computer Science and Software Engineering

  • BSc Computational Thinking

  • BSc Multimedia, Mobile and Web Development

  • BSc Robotics and Intelligent Devices

  • Higher Diploma in Science (Software Development)

  • MSc in Computer Science (Software Engineering)

  • MSc in Computer Science (Applied)

  • MSc and PhD Degree (by research)

The department also contributes to programmes run by other departments. The Department of Computer Science has a current complement of over 35 full-time staff and is active in a number of key research areas with established groups in:

Computer Vision and Robotics, Principles of Programming, Geocomputation, Music Technology, Digital Holography, Computer Science Education, Information Theory and Computational Cognitive Modelling.

The department's staff also contributes to research centres in the university.

Electronics Technician

A research team at the Computer Science Department wishes to recruit an Electronics Technician on a half-time basis to work with them on a commercialization project for a local company. The duration of the role will be 3 months. Principal Duties  The electronics technician will report to the principal investigator of the project. Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following: • Assist the team in designing the prototypes required for the project • Create suitable BOMs that satisfy sourcing and budgetary constraints  • Construct and test any electronic circuits required for the project • Prototype testing in a variety of real-world scenarios • Assist the company to prepare a demonstration model of the final design • Liaise with the company to properly integrate the hardware with their systems • Develop relevant documentation to facilitate troubleshooting and replication of the design by the team and the company ...
