CNC Milling Operator

Our client is an established engineering company, and we’re looking for a CNC Milling Operator to join their busy manufacturing team.

The successful candidate will be responsible for the operation, setup, and monitoring of CNC milling machines to produce precision machined components, while ensuring all quality, safety, and production standards are met.

This role requires strong attention to detail, the ability to follow production schedules, and a good understanding of machining processes in a fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Plan machining activities in line with work schedules
  • Set up and operate CNC milling machinery, including entering instructions and setting zero reference positions
  • Carry out production setup of machines and tooling
  • Read and interpret engineering drawings, including geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T)
  • Select appropriate tools and inserts, and apply correct feeds and speeds
  • Prepare and load raw materials and components onto machines
  • Prepare and run test cycles to ensure outputs meet specifications
  • Monitor machine operation to detect faults, errors, or issues
  • Perform routine machine maintenance and assist with minor repairs
  • Carry out quality inspections, including first-off checks and CTQ (critical to quality) measurements
  • Use dimensional measuring instruments to verify machined features and tolerances
  • Maintain accurate production and quality records for each job, including materials used and machine settings
  • Complete required inspection sheets and quality documentation
  • Ensure CNC machines operate in accordance with company guidelines
  • Follow all safety and health regulations at all times
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organised workspace
  • Adhere to quality procedures and processes in line with ISO 9001:2015
  • Apply working knowledge of lean manufacturing principles and 5S practices
  • Communicate effectively across shifts, including handover of actions and any irregularities to supervisors and fellow operators
  • Document all actions by completing production and quality logs
  • Log required transaction data on Epicor
  • Ensure continuity between shifts through clear communication of production status
  • Work in accordance with 2 or 3 cycle shift patterns

Requirements:

  • 2–3 years’ experience in a CNC milling / machining environment
  • Experience operating CNC milling machines (setup experience advantageous)
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings
  • Knowledge of GD&T (geometric dimensioning and tolerancing)
  • Understanding of tooling selection and machining parameters (feeds and speeds)
  • Experience using dimensional measuring instruments
  • Strong attention to detail and problem-solving ability
  • Familiarity with lean manufacturing and 5S principles
  • Ability to work in a busy production environment
  • Basic PC skills
