Just picture it. It’s 4:10pm on an ordinary Friday afternoon in September and you’re already pulling up in your driveway, home from work already after a short commute. Free now to spend the rest of the evening doing whatever you like - go for a walk or a cycle, hang out with family or friends, or just enjoy the last of the Indian Summer weather.
You’ve recently taken up a new local job in the Midlands – no more M50 traffic jams on Friday evenings !!
The only question now is, in the great words of David Byrne, lead singer of Talking Heads – “How did I get here?” As in, once you made up your mind to leave your city-based job what are the steps to find a job in the Midlands;
1. Register on Midlandjobs.ie for our Jobs by email job alerts
2. Review the leading companies listing jobs on our website. Familiarise yourself with these companies.
3. Search our jobs page for different combinations of job categories and job locations eg.

4. Update your LinkedIn profile
This is an important next step because this will be working for you in the background even when you don’t have time to be job-hunting, this will be letting employers find you.
Note: The Jury is out as to how beneficial it is for you to have the “Open to Work” banner on your profile or not.
But you should enable your setting to be found by Recruiters at the very least.
5. Update your cv on any open cv search databases. There are a couple worth considering as a priority:
Indeed.ie
Jobs.ie
CV Library
Again, the simple logic behind this step, is that most of the recruitment agencies will have access to these resources, so your registration will be working away for you behind the scenes, even when you don't have time to be searching. These recruiters can find you.
6. Register with the local recruitment agencies covering the Midlands region;
Force Recruitment & Outsourcing
7. Keep an eye out on our social media for local jobs fairs in the Midlands region. Register in advance and attend these events. The next one to watch out for is the
Midlands Career Expo on Saturday 4th October 2025.
Follow these steps, and you’ll be well on the way to finding that once in a lifetime job opportunity with that 10 minute commute you’ve dreamed of.
