Transport Planner/Administrator

Job Description

We have been engaged to recruit a Transport Planner/Administrator on behalf of Flynn RoadFreight, based in Moate, County Westmeath. As Transport Planner/Administrator you will direct, plan and coordinate daily transport operations, ensuring legal compliance, vehicle roadworthiness, and efficient, cost-effective, multi-drop, or long-haul deliveries. Key duties include managing driver schedules, tachograph compliance, fleet maintenance and optimizing routes, preferably holding a valid International Transport Manager Certificate of Competence  

Key Responsibilities 

  • Logistics & Scheduling: Plan, organize, and manage driver routes for efficient delivery, including handling international and domestic logistics.
  • Compliance & Safety: Ensure all operations comply with Road Safety Authority (RSA) standards, including EU Tachograph Regulations, Working Time Directives, vehicle maintenance and Health & Safety Regulations.
  • Fleet Management: Manage and supervise vehicle maintenance, arranging vehicle servicing and repairs and manage leasing/rental for HGV’s, Trailers, Vans and ancillary equipment operated by the company.
  • Administration: Managing transport paperwork, including POD’s, compliance documents and invoicing.
  • Staff Management: Supervise drivers and transport staff, including training and recruitment.
  • Cost Control & Operations: Manage transport budgets, fuel usage, negotiate with suppliers, and analyse data to improve efficiency and reduce overheads.
  • Business Development: assist senior management in developing new client leads.

Key Requirements 

·        CPC: While a Certificate of Professional Competence (Road Haulage) is desirable it is not mandatory if the successful candidate is willing to undertake the necessary training.

·        Experience: Proven experience in a busy, high-volume transport/logistics environment with at least 3+ years in transport planning/administration.

  • Knowledge: Strong understanding of current motor vehicle regulations and Irish/Internation Road Transport law.
  • Skills: Excellent communication and negotiation, ability to work under pressure, strong IT skills (TMS and Microsoft)
  • Working Hours: Monday to Friday 8.30am to 5.30pm (with 1 hour for lunch) flexibility needed (some weekend cover required)
