Company:
Shay Murtagh Precast Ltd is a leading designer and manufacturer of precast and prestressed concrete products, supplying major projects throughout Ireland and the UK. Our extensive product range includes large concrete storage tanks, bridge beams, culverts, retaining walls, A-frame buildings, tunnel segments, lift cores, wastewater and rainwater-management products, and bespoke precast solutions designed to meet individual project requirements.
Across the Shay Murtagh Group, our capabilities extend from in-house design and engineering through manufacture, supply and project delivery. Within the utilities sector, Shay Murtagh Limited undertakes the supply, construction and installation of large concrete storage tanks and associated civil infrastructure. The Group also delivers significant precast packages for data centres, battery energy storage system (BESS) developments and other major civil, energy and infrastructure projects throughout Ireland and the UK.
Shay Murtagh Precast continues to secure major, high-profile projects, resulting in a strong pipeline of work and an exciting opportunity for a Site Civil Engineer to join our team in Southern Ireland. The successful candidate should have a civil or structural engineering background, a minimum of three years’ relevant site experience and proven setting-out capability.
Role Purpose:
The Site Civil Engineer is responsible for the day-to-day engineering coordination and technical control of allocated project sites throughout Southern Ireland, supporting the safe, accurate and timely installation of precast concrete structures and associated civil-engineering works. The role will support utility, wastewater, industrial and infrastructure projects, including large concrete storage tanks and other bespoke precast installations, from site mobilisation through construction, commissioning, snagging and final handover.
Reporting to the Senior Project Manager for Ireland and working closely with the Construction and Commercial Manager, Commercial, QS, Design, Production, Logistics, Health and Safety, Quality and site-delivery teams, the Site Civil Engineer will translate approved drawings, specifications and project requirements into safe and practical site activities. This will include setting out, completing dimensional and level checks, confirming site readiness, coordinating deliveries and lifting activities, resolving technical queries and ensuring that the correct information, labour, plant, materials and equipment are available when required.
The Site Civil Engineer will act as the principal day-to-day engineering contact on the allocated site and will communicate regularly with clients, main contractors, consultants, subcontractors and internal departments. They will monitor progress against the agreed programme, maintain accurate site records and promptly identify any technical, quality, safety, access, resource or programme issue that could affect project delivery. Clear updates must be provided to the Senior Project Manager for Ireland, with all outstanding actions followed through to completion.
This is a hands-on, site-based role requiring strong technical ability, sound judgement and a consistently high level of ownership, initiative and follow-through. The successful candidate must actively monitor how work is progressing, identify what needs to happen next and resolve practical issues without waiting for continuous direction. Where an issue cannot be resolved independently, it must be escalated promptly with a clear explanation of the potential impact and a recommended course of action.
The role will primarily cover project sites throughout Southern Ireland and will require regular travel between sites. The postholder will also attend the Group Head Office in Raharney for project handovers, planning, coordination, training and reporting as required. Attendance outside normal working hours may occasionally be required for mobilisation, critical lifting activities or other programme-critical work.
